Rainy Rest

I'm going to "Bandit" the Chilly Half tomorrow, so a complete rest day for me. A little concerned because I've done no running at all for about half a year now. Hopefully my cardio can get me through 30K. I wish I had done the chilly half. I need this as a benchmark before the full Flying Pig Marathon in about six weeks. I can fake a half, but I certainly can't fake a full.

My legs are still sore and tired from the increased weights on Thursday.

WHAT I ATE TODAY
Zen Cereal with Soy Milk, Apple, Green Goodness, 2 slices of pizza, peanut butter sandwhich, banana, 2 slices of bread, squash and roasted pepperr soup. Orange Juice.

I slept 12 hours last night!

Jen gave me a reason to go to bed with her before midnight, so I ended up catching up on my sleep and then some!

Maybe it's just my body's natural rythm, but getting up just before noon seems to be what it's used to even when I go to bed early. Given the fact that we are going to Rocky Horror live at Canstage tonight for a midnight show, I'm sure the extra rest was good.

Combat today at St Clair noon hour was fun. Tanya pulled one of the ealiest releases out... number 8 I think. Most of it was unfamiliar and it was really nice to have the element of suprise now that I'm getting the Combat releases prior to launch on DVD/CD. It's something I haven't experience since getting certified as a Combat instructor.

I also made sure I ate well before heading off to do lunchhour kickboxing.

Spinning went pretty well tonight. Given the nice weather outside, I'll be ready to give it up for the inline season in about a week or two once the nice weather sticks. Tired legs from the squats and lunges last night.

Yoga felt good. My abs were sore and so were my calves. Nice to have an hour to check things over and give myself a bit of time for body-awareness. It's a good gauge to see where I'm working myself and how I'm feeling at the end of the week.

WHAT I ATE TODAY
Bowl of Zen Cereal in Soy Milk, yogurt and banana, green goodness juice, 2 tuna fish sandwhich on Ancient grain bread drowned in light miracle whip, low fat ministrone with hot sauce, chicken quesadilia, High Impact Acai Booster Juice, Hagen Daz Ice cream bar.

messed up my sleep pattern

It's official. three days in a row I've messed up my sleep pattern. Have to get back on a proper sleep schedule.

I am debating whether or not to "Bandit" the Around the Bay 30K run in Hamilton on Sunday. I left the registration too late again, and ideally I should be building up to the Full Flying Pig marathon that I'm doing with Jen and her Dad at the beginning of May.

Kept all the weights high today in Pump at McCaul this evening with Bettina. I even did the lunges with weights (one foot on the riser) and I really felt it. I've been trying to keep the squats and lunges a bit lighter lately to save my legs for Combat and Skating, but I think it's time I got back into the program, particularly as summer race season starts. It does feel good to be able to do the complete track with the heavier weights on Chest and Biceps (just barely in the case of Biceps, thank god for the easier options). 10kg for warmup. 32kg on the squats. 17kg on the lunges. 14kg on chest. 9kg on biceps. 10kg on triceps. 15kg on Clean and Press. Shoulders I generally stick to the 2 1/2 plates on each side because I think I get enough of a shoulder workout doing Combat and Climbing. On Tuesday I did 10kg on biceps and had to pause a couple of times, so I think my goal will be to get to the point where I am feeling comfortable with 9kg and then bump it up to 10kg. I also need to start working harder during the ab track, getting my shoulders slightly higher to increase the workout.

Pump of course is all about high continuous reps on lighter weights, and has a bit of a cardio componant. Hopefully ideal for the lean strength needed for racing.

I have to start thinking about better stretching as well, I'm still losing a great deal of flexibility which impacts my ability to get lower when skating.

Again, today I got up late and didn't eat right away when I woke up, having only an apple and Booster Juice prior to doing Pump. Not good. I ended up binge eating again for dinner Kama all you can eat indian buffet prior to going to the Symphony with Jen.

As they were talking about at the veggie nutritional seminar last weekend, I need to eat much more when I first wake up so that I'll have fuel for the day, partluclarly for my workouts in the evening. Put most of my calories in for breakfast, more for lunch and then not so much for dinner (even if I am starving after an evening workout or skating practice).

WHAT I ATE TODAY
Apple, Booster Juice with Energy Boost, spinich salad, pakoras, garlic naan, butter chicken, Saag paneer, oranges, apples, tandoori chicken, chocolate ice cream.

need proper rest

I keep messing up my sleep schedule. I can't stay up all night.

Pump tonight at St Clair was incredibly crowded. These evening classes are just nuts. Couldn't get weights and not enough room to move, so I didn't feel like I got a whole workout in. Squat weight and chest weight were low, although I went up to 10kg for biceps.

Flow was nice afterwards with Sandra, but I was really tired.

WHAT I ATE TODAY
Nature's Path Zen Cereal, apple, flax bagel with light cream cheese, pickle, green goodness, chocolate covered almonds, 2 Lick's Homeburgers with all the fixin's, Fruitopia.

great

Taught Combat at McCaul tonight. They were awfully quiet. Contacts were really uncomfortable, it's the chalk at the rock climbing gym that seems to ruin them.

We did starts and accelerations at indoor tonight. I'm pretty comfortable with my starts, but Scott pointed out that I was rolling a bit on the outset, which was corrected by keeping the left more perpendicular. Peter emphasized the importance of keeping low. We also discussed the difference that good wheels can make. I guess I'll have to play around with different wheels this summer, but I'm not really sure I'm the caliber of skater that will notice a difference since I'm not much of a track skater.

The gouge in my ankle from the ice boot on Sunday was really driving me nuts today.

WHAT I ATE TODAY
Yogurt, Optimum cereal with soy milk, apple, carrot cake cliff bar, subways 12" club with all the fixin's on Honey Oat bread, green goodness juice, flax bagel with light herb and garlic cream cheese, green apple bubble tea.

Green Weekend

A quiet St Paddy's day weekend.

Jen and I did Pump at 1:30 St Clair. Kept the increased weight on for squats, chest and biceps and I felt it. Managed to get through it.

We attended a Veggie nutrition seminar after that and I found it pretty informative to learn a bit about basic nutrition and vegan options available. Interesting stuff like "Don't eat anyone else's Cholesterol". Tasted veggie sausages and desserts. Looked at alternate sources of protein and the essential amino acids.

Last night on ice. It was more technical and I was not feeling very co-ordinated. Forgot to put on my neoprene bootie again and once again have a bit of an open gouge on my ankle.

WHAT I ATE ON SATURDAY
BK JR burger, banana, apple, fruit slushie, satay veggie beef, singapore style noodles, hot and sour soup, beans and shredded veggie pork.

WHAT I ATE ON SUNDAY
Bowls of Optimum cereal in soy milk, apple, banana and yogurt, flax bagel and light cream cheese, pickles, Ice Tea, Grape tomatoes, carrots, scallop pie, veggie something.
